Jonpaul Long, 47, of Arkwright, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, August 2, 2026. He was the loving husband of Monica (Nalepa) Long and son of Laureen J. (Antolini) Kingsley and Edward W. Long III.
Jonpaul attended Fredonia High School and built his life around hard work, family, and friendship. He began his career as a cook at the Carriage House, where he worked for 17 years until its closing. He then spent five years as a laborer with the Village of Fredonia Department of Public Works before continuing in the same role with the City of Dunkirk. Jonpaul often kept busy doing concrete work on the side, a testament to his strong work ethic.
Family was at the center of Jonpaul’s life. A devoted father, he took great pride in his sons and enjoyed attending their baseball and football games. He also enjoyed golfing, was an avid Buffalo Bills and New York Yankees fan, and had a lifelong love for animals. For a time, he served as the animal catcher for the Town of Pomfret.
Jonpaul valued the friendships he made throughout his life and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was a member of the Moniuszko Club, Kosciuszko Club, Fourth Ward Dunkirk Falcon Club, and the Fredonia Beaver Club.
Jonpaul will be remembered as a hardworking man, a devoted father, and a loyal friend. He would do anything for anyone and was always willing to lend a helping hand. His outgoing personality made him the life of the party, and he never had trouble making people laugh. He touched the lives of many through his generosity, kindness, and friendship, and his memory will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his loving wife Monica (Nalepa) Long, loving sons Carter and Chase Long; parents Laureen J. (Scott) Kingsley and Edward W. (Barbara) Long III; siblings Kyle Long. Kelley (Matt Thomas) Wdowiasz, Angelo “AJ” Bomasuto; mother and father-in-law Bob and Janet Nalepa; nieces Gracie Wdowiasz and Lauren Skellie. He is also survived by many cousins.
Jonpaul is preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents Loretto “Lori” Antolini, Virginia (Bond) Helmich, Edward W. Long, Jr. and Daleen (Benjamin) Long.
Relatives and friends are welcome to attend Calling Hours on Wednesday, August 5, 2026 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home; 736 Central Avenue, Dunkirk, NY. Funeral services will be held in private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by R. Michael Mackowiak III; McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home.
