Mary Edwards, 77, of Dunkirk, formerly of Silver Creek, passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on Thursday, August 13, 2026. Born in Silver Creek on September 8, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Vivian (Beamish) Edwards.
Mary was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose kindness, strength, and generosity touched the lives of many. She was a strong and independent woman with an outgoing personality and a wonderful sense of humor.
Mary graduated from Silver Creek High School in 1966, and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree from SUNY Fredonia State University. She dedicated much of her career to caring for and helping others. She worked as an LPN at the former County Home in Dunkirk before becoming a QMRP for the County Home. She continued her career with the Western New York Developmental Disabilities State Operations Office, where she ultimately served as a Case Manager.
Family was especially important to Mary. She took great pride in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and loved being present for the important moments in their lives. She particularly enjoyed attending her grandchildren's sporting events, school plays and concerts. Mary was also a Buffalo Bills fan.
In her free time, Mary enjoyed playing bingo and taking trips to the casino. She had a love for country music, with Kenny Rogers being a particular favorite. She was a longtime active member of the First United Methodist Church in Dunkirk and was a former member of the Dom Polski Club and Dunkirk Senior Center
Survivors include her loving children, Debra Kujawa, Jack (Elizabeth) Kujawa, and Lisa (Michael) Culhane; grandchildren Jordan Kujawa, Jelissa Collier, Julie Reimen, Tiffany Young, Victoria Kujawa, Teagan Culhane, Dylan Anzalone Rosario, Kennedy Smith, and Nicholas Landon; great-grandchildren, Kayden Kujawa, Serenity Kujawa, Davon McCall, Jasire Young and Maliyah Young; siblings Shirley Bohrer, David (Donna) Edwards, Clifford Edwards, Carol (Casimer) Kowal and sister-in-law, Barbara Edwards. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her son, Joe Rosario, great granddaughter, Jaya Kujawa, and her siblings, Paul Edwards, Thelma Miller, Alfred Edwards and Richard Edwards.
Relatives and friends are welcome to attend Calling Hours on Monday, August 17, 2026 from 4-7 p.m. at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home; 736 Central Ave, Dunkirk, NY. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2026 at 10 a.m. at McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. Interment will be held in Glenwood Cemetery in Silver Creek, NY.
