David Hoffman

David Hoffman, 81, of Westfield, NY, passed away at his home on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, following a brief illness. He was born February 19, 1945, in Buffalo, NY, the son of the late Charles and Eleanor Bush Hoffman.

David attended East Aurora High School. He then worked in road construction as a heavy equipment operator for Union Concrete & Construction out of West Seneca for 40 years before retiring in 2005.

David was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 17 for 62 years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bird watching, and rooting for the Buffalo Sabres and Bills. He enjoyed his morning coffee at the Barcelona Market with his friends. Most of all, he enjoyed time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife, Judith Haskin Hoffman, whom he married on June 5, 1965; three children, Lori (Scott) Rickerson of Westfield, Kelly (Craig) DeLand of Westfield, and Michael (Jodi) Hoffman of Fredonia; eight grandchildren, Nathan (Christine) Chapman, Carley (Andrew) Lata, Jessi Rickerson, Ryan DeLand, MacKenzie DeLand, Madison (Tony) Swierk, Lucas Hoffman and Sydnee Hoffman; eight great-grandchildren, Maggie and Callie Lata, Leenah, Lyra, and Madden DeLand, Mateo, Correa, and Beckham Swierk; two soon to be born great-grandchildren, Baby Chapman and Baby Lata; three siblings, Marie Keppner, Gary Hoffman, and Linda (Phil) Schuyler; three in-law siblings, Howard and Gwen Haskin, and Phyllis Genthner; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, Geraldine Baker, Charles Hoffman, Robert Hoffman, and Ruth Wolff; and one great-grandson, Graeson DeLand.

The family will receive friends for calling hours from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at the Freay Funeral Home in Mayville (139 S. Erie St). The funeral will be held at 11AM on Friday, September 11, 2026, at the First Baptist Church of Westfield (19 Union St). The Rev. Matt Wolfe will officiate. Burial will be in the Westfield Cemetery.
