Fredrick Michael Dingledy, 67, of High Point, NC passed away unexpectedly on Friday September 4, 2026.
Born in Delaware, Ohio, Fred was preceded in death by his father, Dr. David Dingledy, mother, Ellen Owen Dingledy and sister, Ann Dingledy-Rodie.
Fred grew up in Fredonia, NY with seven siblings. He enjoyed his teen years at Fredonia High School where he was Senior Class president, captain of the swim team, acted in school musicals and fought his way out of ten-foot snowdrifts. Working at Aldrich's, he discovered a love of food service which inspired a 50-year restaurant career.
In 1979, Fred received his degree in Hotel Technology from the State University of New York at Canton. While in school, Fred was the student manager of the very successful men's hockey program and acted in school theater productions. Fred's college roommate, Brad Salmonsen of Syracuse, NY remained his enduring friend.
Fred worked in Arlington, VA, Syracuse, Utica and Buffalo, NY, Tampa, FL, Louisville, KY, and Fayetteville, Raleigh and Greensboro, NC where he decided to settle. His restaurant experiences included Stouffer's Hotels, The Magic Pan, Patricians Bakery and Catering, Chucky Cheese (I wish he was still here to tell you about cleaning out the plastic ball pit!), Casa Gallardo, Boston Market and Darryl's. Fred was very successful at improving underperforming restaurants. Fred continued his career at Food Express and ended his career in 2023 at Moses Cone Hospital.
Fred was an avid Buffalo Bills fan, an interest he especially shared with his niece, Sheila Mullowney. Go Bills!
Fred his wife Sheryl built a beautiful life in High Point, NC, that was filled with laughter, food, dogs and wonderful memories. Fred and Sheryl shared 26 years together.
Fred didn't last long being "fully retired." While taking water aerobics classes at Sportscenter Athletic Club, he learned of a need for another instructor. Fred became a certified instructor and taught classes three times a week. On the day of his passing, he had just completed a morning class.
An avid golfer, Fred enjoyed his weekly golf games with life-long friend Rick Delair and long-term friends Mark and Steve Seagle.
He loved to cook and often Cooking Channel shows were on TV in the background. Every meal "was the best ever" and his chicken wings were legendary.
Treasuring his memory are Fred's wife, Sheryl Thornton, brother, David Owen (Janice) Dingledy of Holbrook, MA, sister, Kathryn (Billy Philips) Dingledy of Brocton, NY, sister, Mary Dingledy of Brooklyn, NY, sister, Cecilia (Todd Wade) Dingledy of Rochester, MN, brothers, Richard Dingledy of Fredonia, NY, and Joseph Dingledy of Jamestown, NY. Brother and sisters in-law include, Rick and Deb Delair of High Point, and Ronnie and Donna Garland of Stokesdale, NC. Nieces and nephews include, Madison (Jake) Goldman-Rogers of Richmond, CA, Daniel Goldman (Abby Merriman) of High Point, NC, Joe (Lauren) Fry of Kernersville, NC, Andrew (Lily) Dingledy of Weymouth, MA, Heather (Matthew) McDonough of Japan, Sheila (Steve) Mullowney of Middletown, RI, Isaac Borgstrom of Fredonia, NY, Connor Wade of Des Moines, Iowa, Owen (Megan Mahlberg) Wade of Fitchburg, WI, Joe Dingledy of Fredonia, NY and Armanda (Jean) Gossuin of France.
Though not blessed with children of his own, he was "Uncle Fred" to his friends' children whom he loved and treated as if they were his own.
Fred had a quick sense of humor and the ability to bond with people he met throughout his life's journey. He will be remembered fondly and loved deeply forever.
A service was held at 10:00 am Thursday, September 24, 2026, at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 3906 W. Friendly Ave., Greensboro, NC 27410, and will be livestreamed on YouTube. Additional services will be held later in Fredonia, NY.
