Michael F. "Mac" McCarthy, 66, of Dunkirk, passed away at Buffalo General Hospital on Sunday, September 13, 2026 following an extended illness. Born in Albany, NY on February 10, 1960, he was the son of the late Thomas E. McCarthy and Marie (Andrews) Stuhlmiller.
Michael graduated from Dunkirk High School in 1978. Following high school, Michael began his career with Red Wing, where he worked for approximately 20 years until its closing. He later worked for Dunkirk Specialty Steel for about 10 years.
Michael was an avid sports fan, especially of the Buffalo Bills. He was a proud Bills season ticket holder since 1988 and enjoyed attending games over the years. He was also a dedicated fan of the Buffalo Sabres and New York Yankees.
He enjoyed golfing, and also had a passion for photography, particularly capturing sunsets and memorable moments at concerts. Music was an important part of his life, and he attended countless concerts throughout the years. Among his favorites were the Rolling Stones and Pink Floyd.
He was a member of the Lakeside Club.
Michael is survived by his siblings, Ann (Thomas) Cisliewicz, Thomas (Kathy) McCarthy, Maureen (Norm) Glowniak, Kevin (Deborah) McCarthy, and Bryan (Kimberly) McCarthy; nieces and nephews Thomas J. Cieslewicz, James (Heidi) Ciesliewicz, Christa (Mark) Dues, Shane McCarthy, Matthew (Kristin) Glowniak, Peter Glowniak, Keith Glowniak, Daniel (Reannon) McCarthy, James McCarthy, Michael McCarthy and Thomas McCarthy. He is also survived by multiple great nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are welcome to attend Calling Hours on Friday, September 18, 2026 from 4-7 p.m. at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home; 736 Central Ave., Dunkirk, NY. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at 11 a.m. at McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home. Interment will be held in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Arrangements are by R.
