Randy Carl Brown, 74, of Fredonia, NY passed away on September 24, 2026 after a valiant fight with Alzheimer 's in the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Dunkirk, NY.
Randy was born in Gowanda, NY on August 22, 1952. He was the son of Ralph (Jack) Brown and Edna Bennett Brown of South Dayton, NY. He was a 1970 graduate of Pine Valley Central School.
Randy's passion was his teaching. For four decades, he taught business courses at colleges and universities including Cal State Hayward, SUNY Fredonia, SUNY Buffalo, Medaille College, Jamestown Community College, and Penn State Behrend where he taught in the Black School of Business for his last 22 years before retiring. The friendships he found there were some of the most special of his life.
Randy is survived by his wife of 35 years, Laurel Potwin Brown, of Fredonia, NY, three children by his first wife, Lindsay Dirkx Brown who passed away in June of 1990, in San Ramon, CA, Nicholas Bennett Brown, (Melissa) of Randolph, NY, Blair Brown Middleton (James) of Wilmington, NC, and Sydney Erin Brown of Silver Creek, NY, and seven grandchildren. He is also survived by six siblings, Michael (Lynda) Brown of Fredonia, NY, Dean Brown (Lisa Mansfield) of Cassadaga, NY, Deary (Tim) Panek of Belleview, WA, Vicki (Tom) Laubscher 0f Breinigsville, PA, Dr, Timothy (Holly Evans-Brown) Brown of Randolph, NY, and Rex (Tanya) Brown of South Dayton, NY, and many nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his first wife's siblings, Richard (Micky) Dirkx of Guam, Ryan (Megan) Dirkx of Glenmoore, PA, and Regan (Jessica) Dirkx of Woodbury, MN.
Randy's other passion was basketball and the Wednesday night, Sunday morning group. The "bball guys" remained loyal friends even after he had to "hang up his sneakers".
There will be no services at this time. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
His family would like to thank the dear and caring staff both at Fredonia Place Memory Care and the Chautauqua Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Their passion for their jobs and the loving care they provide is such an incredible gift.
