Susan J. Ticknor, age 74, of Pomfret, New York, passed away on September 2, 2026, after a life marked by devotion to her family, her work, and the simple joys that brought her happiness. She was born on May 2, 1952, in Dunkirk, New York, and carried the values of hard work, kindness, and perseverance throughout her life.
Susan was the beloved wife of Douglas C. Ticknor III, with whom she shared 46 wonderful years of marriage. Together they built a life centered on love, loyalty, and family. She was a devoted mother to Brandon Damon, and she took great pride in the people her family became. She is also survived by her siblings, Timothy and Sherry. Susan was predeceased by her parents, David Earl Cave and Norma Bradley Cave, as well as her brothers, Roger and Wayne Cave. She was also survived by several friends that cared for her deeply.
Susan attended Brocton Central School and carried the lessons of her upbringing into every part of her life. She spent her entire career in food service, where her strong work ethic and dependable nature earned the respect of those who worked alongside her. Her professional life included time at Cassadaga Job Corps and later retirement from the New York State Department of Corrections at Lakeview Shock Facility in Brocton, New York. Through each role, she was known for her dedication, her reliability, and the genuine concern she showed for others.
Outside of work, Susan found joy in the things that made a house feel like home. She loved quilting, gardening, and spending time among flowers. She especially loved black-eyed Susans, a favorite that reflected her appreciation for the beauty found in everyday life. Her hands were often busy creating, tending, and caring, and those who knew her will remember the comfort and pride she took in her hobbies.
Susan will be remembered as a woman of quiet strength, generous spirit, and enduring love. She touched the lives of many through her kindness, her sense of responsibility, and the example she set through a life well lived. Her memory will remain a source of comfort to her family and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
