Zaida Figuera passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at the Chautauqua County Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Dunkirk, NY, after a long illness. Born February 25, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Ponas Mendoza and Olva Sanchez. Her early years were spent in the picturesque town of Juncos, on the Eastern side of Puerto Rico, where she received her upbringing, education, and started her family. She emigrated to the Mainland with her son, Carlos Figueroa, her devoted caregiver, and spent her later life in the Dunkirk and Fredonia area.
Aside from her local son, she is survived by her four daughters, two other sons, grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and aunt.
Funeral Service will be held Thursday, September 3, 2026 at the FANTAUZZI FUNERAL HOME, 82 E Main St, Fredonia, NY at 11 AM. Friends and family may call Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at the funeral home from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Interment will be at St. Hedwig's Cemetery, Dunkirk, NY.
