Zaida Figueroa passed away Wednesday, August 26, 2026 at the Chautauqua County Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Dunkirk, NY, after a long illness. Born February 25, 1949, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Mendoza and Monica Sanchez.
Her early years were spent in the picturesque town of Juncos, on the Eastern side of Puerto Rico, where she received her upbringing, education, and started her family. Fifty-four years ago, she emigrated to the Mainland and made her home in the Dunkirk and Fredonia area.
Above all else, she was a loving, caring, and devoted mother, grandmother, and aunt. She is survived by her children: Carmen, Hector, Antonio, Noemi, Maria, Alex, and Carlos Figueroa, several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral Service will be held Thursday, September 3, 2026 at the FANTAUZZI FUNERAL HOME, 82 E Main St, Fredonia, NY at 11 AM. Friends and family may call Wednesday, September 2, 2026 at the funeral home from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Interment will be at St. Hedwig's Cemetery, Dunkirk, NY.
