1940-2026

Faez E. Tayar

Faez Elias Tayar, age 85, of Portland, NY, passed away on October 17, 2026. He was born on November 25, 1940, in Safita, Syria, and lived a life marked by hard work, generosity, and devotion to his family and community.

Faez came to be known as a man who could do just about anything with his hands and his heart. He took journeyman and trade classes in Syria, building the foundation for a lifetime of skilled work and practical knowledge. He later became self-employed in heating, plumbing, and electric work, operating Tayar Heating Plumbing and Electric in Portland, New York. Through his business, he earned the respect of many for his reliability, his strong work ethic, and his ability to solve problems with skill and determination.

He was a people person in every sense of the word. Faez was outgoing, entertaining, and always ready with a story or a warm welcome. He had a generous spirit and a natural way of making others feel comfortable. He especially enjoyed feeding everyone who came over, and he was known as someone who always took care of others before himself. His home was a place of hospitality, laughter, and good company, and those who knew him will remember the kindness and warmth he shared so freely.

Faez also enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. He liked hunting, fishing, and splitting wood, and he found satisfaction in staying active and useful. These interests reflected the same steady and dependable nature that guided him throughout his life. He took pride in honest work and in the everyday moments that brought people together.

He is survived by his wife, Dawn Babcock; his children, Tara and her husband, Matt Benware, Renee and her husband, Dave Popielarz Jr., and Jeffrey and his wife, Brynn Tayar; and his grandchildren, Courtney Popielarz, Hailey Popielarz, Zachary Popielarz, Chase Popielarz, Galen Benware, Kayden Benware, Hannah Tayar, and Colin Tayar. He is also survived by his brother, Maher and his wife, Suzy Tayar; his sister, Najwa Tayar; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins who will cherish his memory.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elias and Mediha Tayar, and by his siblings, brothers, Odel and Majed, sisters, Nashere, Najoud, Najat, and Nejla. Their memories remained an important part of his life and family history.

Faez will be remembered for his strong presence, his generous heart, and the care he showed to everyone around him. He lived with purpose, worked with pride, and loved deeply. His family and friends will hold close the many memories of his humor, his hospitality, and the steady example he set throughout his life.
