Gary M. George age 71 of Gowanda passed away Sunday morning October 11, 2026 at Absolut Care of Aurora Park in East Aurora.
Gary was born in Lackawanna January 10, 1955. He honorably served our country with the US Air Force.
He retired from the Department of Corrections in Collins where he had been a Correctional Officer for 33 1/2 years. While working corrections, Gary was part of the CERT team .
While his kids were young, Gary coached Little League Baseball and Basketball. He loved riding his motorcycle and had a fondness to muscle cars. Gary volunteered with Love Inc. as a driver, taking people to medical appoints and procedures that had no mode of transportation . He attended Immanuel Lutheran Church and was a member of the Slovenian Club of Gowanda and served on the committee to save the Gowanda Free Library. He was a past member of various clubs including The George Stark American Legion Post 409 and the Gowanda Moose # 1382.
Survivors include his wife, Denise, children; Michelle (Michael) Yates of Rochester , Kyle(Joan Higgins) Schue of Lancaster, Daniel George of Gowanda and Brooke (Scott) Myers of Angola.
Nephews, Vincent and Jesse Gray also survive.
Gary was preceded in death by his mother, Rita George, his sister, Donna Granata, and brother, Daniel George.
Friends may call at the SCHINDLER FUNERAL HOME 44 Center St. Gowanda from 11:00am – 1:45pm Saturday October 17, 2026 Gary's funeral will commence at 2:00pm from the funeral home.
