Leonard J. Star

1933-2026

Leonard J Star

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Leonard J. Star on October 16, 2026.

Leonard, of Hudson, OH, was born in New York City on February 15, 1933, and moved to Fredonia as a child. He spent most of his life there. After graduating from Fredonia High School, he earned a business degree from the University of Rochester and a mechanical engineering degree from Michigan State University.

He returned home and began his career at Alcoa in Dunkirk. He later joined the family business, Fredonia Products, which became Cliffstar Corporation. Cliffstar grew into one of the largest juice processing companies in the United States and one of the largest employers in Western New York.

In 1985, Leonard retired from Cliffstar and founded L.J. Star, Inc. with his son, David in 1991.

The business later moved to Twinsburg, Ohio, and grew successfully under his and David's leadership. Leonard continued to work in the office well into his nineties, offering thoughtful expertise to his colleagues. They valued his warmth, sense of humor, and integrity.

Leonard was a proud Air Force veteran. He had many outside interests, including his Masonic membership, his collection of vintage MGs, and classical music. He enjoyed conducting radio performances from his couch and attended the Cleveland Orchestra regularly. While living in Fredonia, he proudly supported Temple Beth El. After moving to Ohio, he became an active member of Chabad of Twinsburg, which he attended until his passing.

Leonard is survived by his loving wife, Susan Star; his sons, Michael (Debra Golden) and David; his grandchildren, Joshua Black-Star, Gabrielle Star, and Alex Barrett; and his stepsons, Michael and John Drayo. He also leaves behind many adoring nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Doris Star; his brother, Stanley Star; and his first wife,

Eileen Star-Batrouny.

A private family memorial service was held at Larson-Timko Funeral Home on October 19. Leonard was laid to rest at Willowbrook Cemetery in Dunkirk with full military honors.
