FOOTBALL A meaningless Bills finale

Are you ready for some football in Week 17? Not if you are a Buffalo Bills fan.

With the exception of two years — that dramatic playoff appearance made possible by the Cincinnati Bengals last year and a 2004 loss to the third-string Pittsburgh Steelers — the final game of the season has meant nothing to the Bills’ fans since 2000.

Without that incredible turn of events in 2017, the Bills could be looking at another year of the playoff drought. Today, as the team hosts Miami, we hope it’s an end of an era of disappointment. Current quarterback Josh Allen provides some of that — as does a defense that normally puts on a decent showing.

But as so often has been the case in Orchard Park in so many past Decembers, the result against the Dolphins today only affects next year’s draft.
