Thirty years ago — 1992

Robert Armour, a former resident of Dunkirk and a member of the “World Famous Glide Ensemble” of San Francisco, Calif., recently participated in the recording of a gospel and inspirational record, “Touch the Spirit.” Proceeds from the sale of tapes and CDs will be used to support the Glide Memorial Church Foundation programs, which include feeding the homeless and the needy, an AIDS project, a literacy program and a job search program.

Forty years ago — 1982

The Fredonia State University College Council has unanimously approved a request from the college’s geology department to name Room 107 in Houghton Hall the Fahnestock Memorial Geological Laboratory in memory of the late Dr. Robert K. “Ken” Fahnestock. College President Dr. Dallas K. Beal told council members that Dr. Fahnestock, an FSUC geology professor, died tragically in a plane crash in April 1980 in Colorado.

Fifty years ago — 1972

The unusually mild weather enjoyed by local residents these past weeks has brought forth many flowers. Most recently, Mrs. John Fink picked bouquets of pansies in the garden of her home at 65 West Seventh St., Dunkirk.
