Lakefront lands get the shaft
Reading the title on the front page (Aug. 21) of our OBSERVER! Thank God for our OBSERVER!
“Can’t see the walk for the weeds!” How embarrassing for our city of Dunkirk, and especially our Public Works Department! Thank you, Jim Nichols of the Harbor Commission in your statement!
It’s a mess! The people need to know, whose authority gave our Public Works Department the permission? Was it the City, DEC, the county, the state or the EPA? We want answers! Who is hurting the most by this decision? It’s the senior citizens! Again!
Yes, the High-Rise at the end of Main Street! The walk-way, so full of weeds, someone can be hiding in them. The view from Main Street is disgusting! You see, they even tried to stop the seawall from starting, until we told them it is hurting and dangerous to the seniors who live right there! Again, the seniors are being abused!
One resident who complained, the “sand” was blowing on his property when he remodeled. The new seawall will prevent much of the sand when finished, and the little sand that comes will be good for his lawn.
Please bring back the beach there for our yearly sculpturing figures. The people miss that so, and it is great for our economy in Dunkirk! We get so many out-of-town visitors for this, and many of our own people come back if on vacations!
The other end of our beach, near Wright Beach is unsafe for swimming. It’s the drop-off with the storm sewer, coming from along Roberts Road and Hyde Creek, with water not treated! They refuse to put the sign up! Someone is going to get hurt there!
Please help us federal and state officials. Thank you and God bless!
Valerie Pawlak is a Dunkirk resident.
