What’s age? Spirit is what counts

I often ask myself why do girls know how to do some things and boys know how to do other things? Both can ride bikes, but only boys can fix bikes and girls can’t. Maybe God was so smart, we need each other!

I’m having trouble with my T.V. I have no idea how to fix it. Guys know. It’s great when I have boys upstairs. They tell the new boys who come, “Don’t forget to take care of Margaret.”

People ask me, “How can you live with college kids?”

I love it! They keep me young and I give them wisdom. Each goes with the territory.

I was still playing ball and riding my bike in my 80s!

What’s age? Spirit is what counts!

I had a new nurse today. She had a nice slim figure. She asked me, “How old do you think I am?” I had no idea. She smiled and said, “I’m 75 years old and I work seven days a week! My husband is 77 and he works seven days a week!”

Unbelievable! Have you noticed people are working longer? Maybe they have to make ends meet.

When I was in the Home on Temple Street, I had a nurse who always ran. I couldn’t believe her age! I’m waiting to get younger. So far I can’t see it!

How are you coping with the heat? Some people love it! I’m not one of them! My son, Dan, says he’s used to it. In St. Augustine, they have heat and moisture, too. Ramona said in California, they have dry heat. I guess I’ll stay where I am. I am alone again. It was great having company again. I find I don’t talk as much, but I enjoy their talk.

This column is priceless! Through it, I got a blow-up bed – from a Valone, too. Now Mary Ann, I can’t find your name in the telephone book, so I need you to come and pick it up. I don’t have a car and I don’t drive anymore. Thank you so much.

Here’s a compliment for Dunkirk. My nurse this morning told me she travels a lot and sees many empty stores, but Dunkirk looks great! I love to hear good news like that! I want to see Dunkirk and Fredonia do things together – no rivalry, but friendship and cooperation!! Now, with schools getting smaller and sports teams having to unite, we might see more cooperation. Fredonia is educational with the college here and Dunkirk is industrial. We need both, so let’s get with it!

I got stacks of mail today. Every time that happens, I say, “Let’s see who wants my money!”

Sure enough. I love to give, but every month? Now I give locally. I want it to stay here! Live and learn. I hope Social Security is safe!

P.S. Regarding the CIAO picnic Aug. 6: Attention CIAO members and friends:

We are having a problem contacting all the CIAO members because many do not have land lines, but only use cell phones, so are not listed in phone books. We need a head count for the sausage for the Aug. 6 picnic. Please call me, Margaret, today (Saturday, July 30) at 679-4772 so that the sausage order can be placed. The picnic is a free event for CIAO members and friends of CIAO.
