Make voice heard on wind plans
I received a notice from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Buffalo district pertaining to the Arkwright Summit Wind Farm, LLC. It contains 20 pages of maps and in debt study of what they plan on doing and the effects it will have. The only problem is you need an engineer to read it and make heads or tails out of it.
They say the purpose of it is to solicit comments from the public regarding the work described below. It states no decision has been made as to whether or not a permit will be issued at this time. It will encompass 3,883 acres of leased land located off of Route 83, Center Road, Ball Road, Straight Road and Brainard Road.
But to get to my question, since that is what they seem to be looking for our input, what price are we going to pay and what benefit will we receive in the final analysis? A handful of residents will make out real well with royalties and a handful of permanent jobs will be created in the end.
Will our electric be cheaper? Will our taxes be reduced? Will our beautiful countryside maintain its character? Will our peaceful countryside now become traveled with heavy construction trucks? Will these giant windmills create noise, flashing lights and at 450 feet high, will they stand out like giant monsters?
Will our wells, streams, ponds and wetland be destroyed? At what price do we say it’s worth it?
This is no small change to our area. This will last for you and your children’s lifetimes. Who is all this electric being generated for and where is it going to be sent?
What about NRG power plant and its future as it sits on our shores idle? How about the future of solar, which is gaining more and more ground and less destructive than giant turbines?
There are many questions, as you can see, but the biggest one you have to ask yourself is this: Is it worth it? It seems it benefits the few while punishing the many right now.
No decision has been made as to whether a permit will be issued at this time according to the notice dated Nov. 14 from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. I am guessing all area resident received this notice.
The decision is yours speak up or forever hold your peace. I say no, it’s not worth the price.
We have been living without these turbines and wind farms up to now. Solar has been making great strides. We may not even need a project of this magnitude.
This is your back yard people you will be looking at and dealing with this for a long time to come.
