A lesson learned from son’s death

In Bible class Sunday I said something and my teacher, Rick, said I should write a column about it. We were talking about death and how people say, “I know just how you feel,” and they never had a death experience. I found this out when my son Rusty died.

After that when I heard about a death, I called because I did know how it felt. I want to tell you about Rusty’s death.

I went down to see him because I was going to have a heart operation and I knew he would worry. I looked the same and I felt fine. He told me I was always so religious that he took it for granted that I was saved. I told him I couldn’t accept the death of Christ. After all God was all powerful. He could have done something else. Rusty said the people knew the story about everybody who had blood on the door, the angel of death would pass over them. He had to give them something they would understand. I told him I would think about it.

Rusty was electrocuted at work. Two of the guys got down on their knees and surrendered their lives to God because they wanted to be like Rusty. And one of them was a hit man for the Mafia! He changed his life completely! He opened up a Christian restaurant, and had Bible verses on the walls.

When I heard all this I said, “Now I understand. Death is a motivation. If my son’s death could motivate me, He knew his Son’s death could motivate the world!” It took my son’s death to save me.

I said, “I was born with a hole in my heart. Jesus came in, the doctors closed the hole, and He’s never coming out!”

It took two deaths to save me.

I said, “I gave him birth. He gave me life.” That’s the message Rick wanted me to give you.

I was good, but I was lost. Maybe there is someone out there that needs to hear this story. If Rusty and I can help them to understand, we’d be so grateful!

This is not a religious column, but it is about life and a better life. I try to help everyone.

I was telling a friend of mine the other day, I fed a lot of people and now people are feeding me!

They aren’t the same people, because most of those I fed are dead! These are much younger. Life is good. God is good! Don’t ever regret doing good! It comes back again and again.

I wonder what I’m still doing here. Maybe I’m supposed to help someone. Let’s hope this column helps you!

God bless!
