One unfortunate voice led to minor dispute
There was no “Ark’fight'” at this month’s Town Board meeting between myself and Jake Szumigala. The article did not include what caused all of it.
To start, everything was OK until I asked Roger Cardot if he is such an advocate for the wind farm, why does he want to stop it because children won’t be able to study for final exams. Where are the parents? I asked. Isn’t it up to them, not us, to see that they study?
Mr. Cardot’s answer was for me to, “Sit down. My family did not matter” as we have not lived in Arkwright for 150 years as his has. At that point, I was upset and angered as I am concerned that “all families” matter in the town.
Mr. Szumigala and his family count as much as mine or anyone else’s here, regardless of how long they have resided here.
I apologize to Mr. Szumigala as he was not the cause of anything.
He is entitled to his opinions just as everybody is.
When this project started, the company wanted to take all the residents thoughts and emotions into consideration. They have made many changes already to keep people happy. They even made some roads better than they would be in a normal Arkwright spring.
I would think a lot of families in this area are better off. There was employment all winter and hotels and restaurants have made money.
Yes, there will be a turbine on our property. As I put it, this is our contribution to this world getting away from fossil fuels. One hope was and is that this project would bring our town closer and not divide it. Taxes should be lowered for everyone.
Remember, construction will end and our lives will go on.
