Legal immigrants welcomed for years
Commentary
On the front page of the OBSERVER on June 29 was an article headlined “Families belong together: City to take part in national rally.”
The Chautauqua County Women’s Action Group, a group that was created to take political action toward social injustice, along with the Chautauqua County League of Women Voters and the Social Action Committee of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Northern Chautauqua were taking part in a national event that is culminating around the country, “Families Belong Together.” The article also showed a picture of a young boy with a member of a law firm.
I do agree that families do belong together, but the main problem that is forgotten is that those who enter this country illegally are subject to our laws. Sneaking into this country is not the way to achieve citizenship.
Take, for instance, our forefathers who came to this country from Europe and had to first go through Ellis Island and had to be examined for health issues. Not all were allowed into this country.
Those who were lucky enough to enter legally, I repeat, legally, they were on their own. Nothing was given to them for free. Nothing was given to them, but they accepted those terms because they wanted to become legal citizens of this country.
They had to fend for themselves, find a way to support their families. They had no free health care in case any member was sick. They had to pay for everything that they had.
Again, nothing was free. My grandparents came to this country from Poland and they were the few that I had mentioned. So what makes others who come to this country think that they are better than my grandparents and the others who had to come to this country legally?
Again, that word, legally. This whole situation has gotten out of hand with illegals, yes, illegals. They came here breaking our laws by sneaking into this country. Now they want the same consideration given to them as those legal immigrants who came to this country before them. Not fair at all.
What I would like to know is what political party is responsible for this disaster? I am proud to have my family who came to this country legally through legal channels, not sneaking into this country on open borders. Now everyone who is a member of those above organizations are blaming the wrong people for this mess. Blame the politicians who let this happen during the last administration.
God bless the legal Americans and those who need understanding, but also remember this problem was not caused by this administration.
God bless America.
