Town still shooting from hip

Commentary: Arkwright’s solar effort

As I see it, solar power should be a individual choice not made for us on behalf of the Arkwright Town Board. If people want to put panels on their roofs or their own property, that is a personal choice. It is not for a Town Board to decide for the entire community.

You would think by now the board would be a little more cautious about how they proceed after the windfarm fiasco. Arkwright has been changed from what once was a beautiful quiet peaceful place into an eyesore which can be heard and seen for miles. Now this new idea of solar for more electric?

With 36 giant windmills in service, do we need more electric? I checked into the solar companies website that the town board has been discussing solar energy with it seems all or most are residential and commercial properties to lower cost for individual owners (http://www.solarliberty.com/incentives.html ).

I am not against solar energy. I know it will be the best solution for the future, but it is not for a town board to get into the business of buying land and dictating how to operate. I myself may look into solar as an option.

It is much quieter than wind farms. You see these units on houses all over the country producing quiet free electric. Let’s keep it an individual choice.

As for all their money they are making on the wind farm — a revenue stream as its called — I]m not sure what to do with it . But leave the solar projects to the people of Arkwright.

One more thing: why buy 100 acres when all you need is about 5 to 10 acres for a solar farm that would produce electric for between 1,000 and 2,000 homes? And since when did it become an emergency to buy land? That meeting was not properly publicized. By law that March 4 was illegal.

Stop the Town Boards before they do anymore damage.
