Some smooth sailing?

With the closing of 2019 Off Shore Boat Races and Wing Walker Air Show we would like to recognize those who worked to provide the Public Safety Services for the events.

We strive to provide a very safe environment for the Boat Racers, Race Team Personnel, The Wing Walker Air Show and all the people who come to watch these events as well as all the music and events in Memorial Park which culminated with the Fireworks Display Sunday Evening.

We want to start by thanking our city Fire and Police Department personnel for their dedication during the weekend as well as all their work in the planning and training for these events. Without them we would not enjoy the success we have in providing the Public Safety we do.

Along with our personnel we are truly lucky to have the invaluable support of our Department of Public Works and Parks Department and the following agencies.

From Chautauqua County we were assisted by: Chautauqua County Emergency Services with their Command Unit, Chautauqua County Emergency Medical Services Team and the Chautauqua County Fire Police Team. Our thanks to Emergency Services Coordinator John Griffith and all the staff. Chautauqua County Sheriff Office provided Navigation Patrol and Water Emergency Team Personnel. Our thanks to Sheriff James Quattrone, Sgt. Glenn Giles and all their staff.

From New York state: State Police Navigation Patrol Unit, New York State DEC Navigation Patrol Unit.

The U.S. Coast Guard Navigation and Patrol Unit also assisted.

We also received staff and equipment assistance from: Fredonia Fire Department, East Dunkirk Fire Department, Silver Creek Fire Department and Forestville Fire Department.

In closing, we want to again offer our sincere gratitude to our department personnel and all the agencies that assisted us with the Boat Races and Air Show. Working together with all of them ensures that the city of Dunkirk is a very safe destination to enjoy such an event.

Michael Edwards is chief of the Dunkirk Fire Department and David Ortolano is chief of the city of Dunkirk Police Department.

Starting at $3.50/week.
