Society has become far too forgiving

Like many Americans, Alice and I spend our leisurely hours, during the Virus scare, watching YouTube on TV. It is too darned hot, in Arizona, to go out side for any other reason then to shop. A friend reminded me my name appeared on the front page in the Sept. 1 issue of this paper. They thanked me for my subscription to the OBSERVER Because the Dunkirk and Fredona area is where my fond memories originated I care what is happening there. So having been recognized, on the front page, I offer some thoughts in the hope they will appear in the opinion column.

“Winds of War”, written by Herman Wouk, is appearing on YouTube in the serial form. I read this wonderful book years ago a long with “The Caine Mutiny” also written by Wouk. In the sixth series it shows Winston Churchill and President Roosevelt, played by Ralph Bellamy, aboard, I believe it was the Enterprise, for one of their meetings before we entered the war in December of 1941. The sailors from the English Navy along with our sailors stood at rigid attention as our National Anthem was being played by a Navy Band. Ralph Bellamy, Roosevelt, looked with national pride as his eyes followed the long lines of sailors whose destiny was uncertain.

Many times, in the 90 years of my life, I have felt with pride as did our president did almost 80 years ago. Then I change channels, on the TV, and seen anarchy and disrespect to the things that were the reasons for my national pride. We were taught the past, a past that was not always flowery but we understood our ancestors did what they had to do to survive. Changes were made but one thing we were taught, at a young age, a civilized society had to have law and order to exist? Obey the laws and the police that enforce it! I never knew any bad policemen. Oh yes, I was counseled by them and because of the respect I had for them I learned my lessons and survived these 90 years with out a rap sheet. Of course speeding tickets were a result of a heavy foot on the gas peddle!

It is unfortunate the men who were shot by the police did not have the counseling the kids of my time had. Maybe, just maybe, they would be alive today if they had? Their deaths are now used by people with an agenda who are in reality progressives supporting the far left branch of the Democratic party! There is much at stake in the coming presidential election. Some anarchists are using the a recent protest movement, as a weapon and subsequently their peaceful demonstrations become riots. Martin Luther King Jr. would be appalled with these tactics. His non-violent approach proved to bring rewards to his cause and resulted in equality for all.

I am not a big fan of the “conspiracy theory” but it seems that as disruptive and destructive these riots have been our law enforcement can not control this madness! The Democrat officials refuse the help offered by the President and now after 100 days Portland, Ore., still is still in chaos. Is our constitutions hindering in this effort? Yes, in a way. Anarchy does not happen over night. It takes time to plant certain operatives mainly in the courts. Remember these Judges are appointed not elected. President Trump is slowly replacing the ones former President Obama planted.

Our military through out our history have stormed the beaches, battled the enemy at sea and many have died in the pursuit for freedom. Now we are told anarchist can destroy, plunder and desecrate our national monuments because some operatives give the prerogative to a bunch of anarchist.
