Keep up fight on lake turbines

Editor, OBSERVER:

Anyone who walks the beach, boats, swims, sails or drinks water from Lake Erie should be very concerned about Governor Cuomo’s plan for 50-plus industrial wind turbines in our Great Lake stretching from Hamburg to Dunkirk.

These 450 feet monstrosities will circumvent any environmental process under Cuomo’s Article 10. Lake Erie will be sold out to Diamond Wind, a subsidiary of Mitsubishi.

The Enacted Article 10 Statute is quoted as follows: “provides for the siting review of new and repowered or modified major electric generating facilities in New York state by the Board on Electric Generation Siting and the Environment (Siting Board) in a unified proceeding instead of requiring a developer or owner of such a facility to apply for numerous state and local permits.”

Ten years ago we did not want industrial wind turbines in our lake in the failed GLOW Project, and we still don’t want or need them. These inefficient and inconsistent monstrosities will be of no benefit to Western New York.

Western New York’s best natural resources are Niagara Falls and Lake Erie, our power and fresh water should never be compromised.
