An attraction you can bank on in the village

I recently visited relatives, neighbors, and friends in Fredonia accompanied by boos and hisses from some of my readers. It was great fun to visit everybody that we could but that wasn’t the main reason for our return. The main objective of our visit was to see one main attraction. And that was The Wall. That ‘s the Wall in downtown Fredonia sitting in the heart of the village for all the world to enjoy.

I call it with love and admiration WOF; Wall of Fredonia.

Seeing it in person was quite a moment. Both my wife and I had the same reaction. “It is even better that I thought it would be.” The length was outstanding, the width was divine, the height was perfect for leaning against, greatness of the white-grayness was magnificent, and the end caps are to die for.

We waited in line to take a series of pictures with WOF because the line of tourists doing the same was long and winding. A gentleman from Jerusalem was in front of me. I asked him what he thought of WOF the Wall of Fredonia? He answered in tears. He said he thought it was “the number one in the world.” He went on to explain that he is a wallaphile which I assume is a lover of walls. He explained that he has seen all the famous walls in the world and this tops them all.

Being from Jerusalem, he obviously was intimately linked the the Western Wall. Thousands of tourists visit that sacred spot each year. Bibi of Jerusalem went on to explain that The Western Wall in Jerusalem is there where worshippers go to pray and leave notes in the wall expressing their wishes. He said they should pray that they have a Wall of Fredonbia.

“Oh yeah, we have the Western Wall but you here in Fredonia also have a southern wall, eastern and northern. Now that’s pretty cool You have a wall that you can surround with love that we can’t.

There was another fellow behind me who was from Brocton. His comments reflected a bit of jealousy. “Why couldn’t this be placed in our town? What do we have in the center of our town, a Dollar General and a a gas station. We could have used a wall for a bit of diversion. When I leave the house, what do I tell my wife. I’m going down to Dollar General. With something like a wall, I’d have some variety. Hey honey, I’m going downtown to check out The Wall.

There is concern that the wall may provide and obstacle to efficient snow removal at times following a lake effect storm.

But according to my vast research staff, I believe that the wall is a fortuitous structure considering what else was being considered by the bank’s decision makers. By a 4 to 3 vote the construction of a pyramid was defeated. It would have presented a top cornerstone containing a blinking photo of former village Attorney Sam Drayo. You talk about a village disaster. YIKES!
