Coming election full of meaningful agendas

We all know there is a lot on the line this November. We are balanced on the edge of a knife.

If the Republicans win they will have the power to cut our rights to freedom and privacy. They will speed up global warming by increasing carbon emissions and cutting funding for renewables. They have promised to enact the Christian Nationalist Agenda.

Already U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham has proposed a federal abortion ban. That is just the beginning.

Banning abortion will not lead to an increase in healthy babies. Banning abortion will lead to women dying from ectopic pregnancies. It will lead to women dying from unsuccessful abortion attempts, and women dying at the hands of the baby’s father.

If the goal is to have healthy babies then support mothers by investing in prenatal care, basic food, help with rent and utilities. WIC, SNAP and the child tax credit all help families. I have never heard a Republican praise any of these programs.

Global warming is happening. It’s causing all this weird weather. Rational people accept the written record, the millions of individual log entries of temperature and precipitation collected by every weather station, lighthouse and seaport over the last 200 years. Rational people accept the evidence of our own lives. In the last 63 years I have seen our summers get hotter, our winters milder and our storms stronger. Anyone my age who says that winters are the same now as when we were children is just in denial.

If you go to YouTube and type in “Lauren Boebert end times,” you will see her promoting the Christian Nationalist desire to bring about the rapture by engineering environmental collapse.

The famine in Africa, the growing deserts, the terrible storms will all get worse just as the book of Revelations predicts. All we need to do is keep pouring carbon into the atmosphere. She invites her audience to be joyful to be part of these times

Personally the most frightening thing about the Christian nationalists as a group is they enjoy hurting people. They have no pity for Pakistan drowning or the Sahel drying out, no pity for the islands that are disappearing, no pity for all these people on the move. Where can these people go now that their homes are under water or covered in sand? They are walking, they are sailing because they have no choice. They are coming because to stay where they are is to die.

This election season we have two very stark choices. On one side the people who accept the evidence of global warming and the fact that Joe Biden won in 2020. President Donald Trump filed 62 lawsuits claiming voter fraud. Not a single one of them was found to have any merit. Surely if there were any evidence at least one would have born fruit? Some of those judges were appointed by Trump. They still decided 62 times the election was fair and honest.

People who claim Trump won are saying they do not accept the rule of law. They don’t care about the constitution or the courts. On Jan. 6, a group of Trump followers tried to disrupt Congress. They tried to take over by force. It didn’t work but it could have and they are planning to try again.

Personally I really like our system of government. I like it that we talk things over and vote. I like being able to write these commentaries.

If you are a conservative person, you may not agree with my opinions. But we do need to worry about deeply troubling behavior following the 2020 election. It is a warning sign.
