Perspective keeps skewing global reality

President Donald Trump is loudly proclaiming, “We won! We won!” The Iranians are saying not so fast, the strait is closed.

Trump is complaining forcefully that “Fake News” is not reporting the administration’s great success. If there was success, gas would not be $4 a gallon, soon to be $5.

With the internet people can seek out news. We can talk to people from around the world. We can watch Independent media like “Democracy Now!” www.Democracynow.org NPR and PBS

How do we know Democracy Now, NPR and PBS are telling the truth? They interview people who have written books. I have been able to buy the books and read them and research them. The fact that the books are based on verifiable evidence makes me believe these sources.

The disconnect between Trump chanting “We won! We won!” and the mess we are actually in is important. He is not dealing with reality and should be removed from office. Call U.S. Rep. Nick Langworthy at (716) 488-8111 and tell him it is time for Article 25.

Listen to the arguments of some fo Trump’s supporters. They are openly saying “Trump was appointed by God to bring about the end times and the rapture.”

Pardon me, but I object strongly to being forced to live out the book of Revelations. I take the words that Jesus said as Gospel. He said “…. The Truth will set you free” John 8:32

The truth is we are poisoning the planet on a massive scale. There is an image on the internet of our planet taken from space in 1976 and 2026. We have polluted it so much it is visibly grayer. We should all be alarmed by this. We should all recognize this is the clear and present danger. Warming the planet has shifted the pattern of rainfall.

We look around and everything here seems pretty good. The rains are coming on time, but that is because we live next to the Great Lakes. Twenty percent of all the fresh water on the planet is right here. We are wealthy.

This is not the case for many parts of the world. Our Western States are in the midst of a 26-year drought. The monsoon is expected to be less this year and it’s going to be hotter. It is in fact going to be the hottest summer on record and it will be the coolest summer for the rest of our children’s lives.

Even if we could magically shift right now and stop burning anything we have set in motion irreversible processes we can only prepare for. They can not be entirely avoided.

Back in 1978 when Jimmy Carter put on a sweater and said, “Turn down your thermostat. We have an energy crisis but we can get through it until we shift to renewables” he was listening to the scientists who predicted all the things we are experiencing now the heat waves, the droughts, the crop failures, the forest fires (Georgia is on fire and it’s April). Everything is happening faster than the original predictions.

The fossil fuel industry has poured billions of dollars into gas lighting the whole population. I know people who even now, do not believe it’s happening. People who have seen the glaciers shrinking with their own eyes do not believe in global warming.

Global warming is not like the tooth fairy; it is happening whether you believe in it. This war with Iran is speeding it up even more.

We have to remember that food doesn’t really come from the grocery store. We depend on farmers to grow it.

Thirty percent of the world’s fertilizer passes through the Strait of Hormuz. It’s spring in the northern hemisphere. All around the world people are planting. Consider the subsistence farmer who is living in Kenya or India who only has 2 or 3 acres they use to feed themselves and produce a little to sell, the fertilizer is crucial at this time of year. Without it they will have decreased harvests. We will see starvation in many places this fall.

As a country that wants to call itself “Christian” lets follow the teachings of Jesus who said “Welcome the stranger….Feed the hungry…..Visit the prisoner” Mathew 25:35

“As you have done to the least of these you have done unto me” Mathew 25:40.

Caring for people is directly opposite from bringing about the book of Revelations. As a society we have to choose. Follow the teachings of Christ and care for those less fortunate or go on as we are.

We are building huge prisons. We are arresting people for not having the right papers. There is no easy way to get the right papers. The prisons are overcrowded, they lack good food and medical care. A prisoner died from an infected tooth. Entering the country without papers is a civil offence. It shouldn’t be a death sentence.

We are traumatizing children by keeping them in these prisons for months at a time. All children are worthy of love and to have their basic human needs met.
