After 20 years of outright fraud, the UN-IPCC finally admitted their climate doom scenarios (RCP8.5 and SSP5-8.5) were phony nonsense. But those fraudulent scenarios were used to fleece New York taxpayers to subsidize Albany's fear-based Green Energy mandates.
But the climate-con continues daily. Consider the knee-jerk reaction of climate doomers blaming the recent Nepal flooding on global warming - before any scientific data was available! But geologists - using detailed video and seismic data - showed that the underlying bedrock collapsed, not the glacier. It had nothing to do with climate change.
For many years, scientists whose research contradicted the climate-con were attacked as "Deniers" by the Climate-Industrial complex, Leftist politicians, and the lapdog media who pushed climate hysteria. Green Energy was never about climate. It was about fear-based extortion from taxpayers and rate payers.
Ironically, the same people who complain most vociferously about corporate profits are perfectly willing to gorge themselves at the trough of subsidies and tax breaks for Big Wind and Big Solar corporations which - by New York law – never pay their fair share in taxes.
Now Albany says we must spend another $30 billion to develop nuclear power. Of course we must! Or the lights go out! Eight years ago, these same geniuses in Albany voted to kill nuclear power in New York state.
Albany burned $20 bllion (replacement cost) by shuttering the Indian Point nuclear plant, which generated 25% of all NYC power and had 40 years of safe life remaining. Indian Point's clean 24/7/365 power was then replaced with coal-based power from Pennsylvania. Remarkable genius!
The same people who killed nuclear power in NY also dreamed up the fantasy term "Dispatchable Emission-Free Resource" (DEFR) for the imaginary backup energy source that would theoretically make Wind and Solar compatible with the Grid. Apparently, these politicians and bureaucrats believed they could legislate the laws of physics – but there is no DEFR, nor will there be.
Gov. Kathy Hochul recently acknowledged the abject failure of New York's energy policies when she put a moratorium on data centers. Under current law (CLCPA), New York cannot generate enough power to support data centers -- or even electric buses. Any second-year engineering student could have figured that out.
Adding to Albany's malfeasance, state pension funds have invested $2.4 Billion in Wind and Solar businesses (Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli). Hence, those pensions depend upon future subsidies and tax breaks for Wind and Solar. Who will pay to rescue those pension funds when the laws of physics and economics cause Green Energy to go down in flames?
Cry yourself a Green Energy river, Albany! You can always force taxpayers to cover your malfeasance -- again.
It gets worse: NY City is squandering $10 Billion to modify their waterfront parks against imaginary climate monsters. Actual climate data never indicated danger from rising seas or increased storm intensity, but NYC is squandering its resources anyway.
Or perhaps this boondoggle is merely a way to cycle taxpayer money back to NYC politicians and their donors, while state taxpayers are forced by Albany politicians to bail out NYC to the tune of $8 Billion.
On the bright side, the Trump Administration put the kibosh on Offshore Wind - which will save NY ratepayers a bundle compared to what it would cost to utilize Offshore Wind as Albany had mandated. Even after massive subsidies and tax breaks, Offshore Wind would still cost consumers four times more than conventional power (per NYS Strike Price mandates).
However, Strike Prices for Wind and Solar do not include additional costs for new Transmission, Integration, and Storage Systems necessary to make Wind or Solar compatible with the Grid. They don't tell you that.
Hochul should thank Trump for improving "affordability" by removing expensive Offshore Wind. Instead, she dishonestly blames Trump for the increase in NY electric rates, which were already 70% higher than the US average (EIA). NYISO predicted those increases in 2024, but Hochul refused to correct the course.
So, Albany continues to squander resources on Wind, Solar, and Battery farms, all of which become landfill within 12-20 years when they reach end-of-life and must be completely replaced at huge cost. Instead, we could have utilized our resources to modernize our Grid and upgrade our conventional power generation, while preparing the way for the inevitable return of Nuclear power.
Instead, Albany – led by Hochul - chose to create an energy and economic disaster to enrich the Big Money investors who put them in power. You - the taxpayer - never mattered to them.
We suggest that the next Solar farm should cover Central Park (NYC) so the latte sippers who control Albany politics can personally experience the splendor of their policies. After all, it is a climate emergency.
So, fellow New Yorkers, cry yourself a Green Energy river. Elections certainly do have consequences.
