Apologists for socialism commonly claim its historical failures were because "they" did it wrong. To the contrary - we think "they" did it perfectly.
However, those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it, and today's socialists seem determined to repeat history.
Conversely, we who learned from history are not particularly eager to live under socialism's totalitarian yoke. We do not want our children standing in bread lines for the sake of "equality". We reject socialism's innate lust for power over us.
Nor will we surrender our minds to the sanctimonious narcissism of the socialists. We understand that there is no practical difference between Democratic Socialism, Socialism, and Communism. It's a distinction without a difference in practice.
90 years of creeping socialism – and its sneaky cousin the Welfare State - has ruined our families, our healthcare, public education, and our culture - all while exploding our debt - perhaps intentionally as per the "Cloward-Piven Strategy" (look it up).
We seek liberation from socialism and the Welfare State. We choose to live as independent co-operative adults -- not as forever-children dependent on socialism for food ration cards. We seek restoration of the American ethos: Individual liberty and personal responsibility - the opposite of socialism and the Welfare State.
Those clamoring for socialism could simply form their own communes, but their objective is not the "shared warmth of collectivism." Their objective is simply subjugation of the masses.
Our New Socialists (like DSA) try to blame socialism's historical failures on "socialism-done-wrong," but history shows that socialism fails when done right. Socialism contradicts human nature and dehumanizes individuals while promising unicorns and lollipops for people who believe in the Easter Bunny.
Our New Socialists believe they are entitled to be "kept" by others, but they are merely looters. Perhaps our New Socialists - like Harvard graduates and DSA members - could better demonstrate their socialist virtues by marching off to communal fields to pick lettuce for the masses. Under socialism the people have a right to free salads.
The New Socialists claim they will eliminate the police. But neither socialism nor the Welfare State can exist without a police state to enforce it. Will our New Socialists really eliminate the police? Or will they use their police power to oppress the population - the way socialism requires. Alexandr Solzhenitsyn told us exactly how that works.
In 1973 Solzhenitsyn smuggled a manuscript of "Gulag Archipelago” out of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR). He exposed some rather inconvenient truths about the brutality of socialism and the police state needed to enforce compliance with socialism through fear and Gulags.
"Gulag Archipelago" revealed the inherent evils of socialism hidden behind Potemkin Villages and denied by Ivory Tower theorists at our "fine colleges". Yet 50 years later, Solzhenitsyn's dire warnings are conveniently ignored by the New Socialists who push the Alice-in-Wonderland fantasies of Karl Marx and the DSA.
But can the New Socialists point to an actual socialist success? Nope.
Some apologists point to China but ignore that China calls its system "Socialism with Chinese Characteristics." In other words, not socialism.
When Mao employed his "socialism-done-right" policies the Chinese became destitute and suffered 65 million deaths due to political murder and starvation. The starving Chinese literally ate each other's children during the Great Leap Forward (history - learn it). That's sharing, socialist style.
China was rescued from socialism only after Mao died, and Deng Xiaoping invited Milton Friedman (free market champion) to advise China in 1980.
China survived only because it replaced socialism with a level of private ownership and entrepreneurism that benefitted individuals. Income inequality does now exist in China, but everyone is richer and nobody starves. Conversely, income equality under socialism meant everyone starved equally - except the chubby socialist bosses.
History shows that income inequality is a good alternative to socialism's reality.
But while history is inconvenient for the New Socialists, contemporary events are also damning to their utopian narrative. For example, Germany has been a leader in the backward march into socialism with their huge Welfare State. So, how have they fared?
Last year, noting Germany's economic collapse, Chancellor Friedrich Merz said: "We need to work more and, crucially, more efficiently. We have no hope of maintaining our nation's prosperity with a four-day week or work-life balance."
Strangely, the "four-day week" and "work-life balance" that killed Germany are primary policy objectives of our New Socialists - as openly stated on the DSA website.
Oops!
But our New Socialists will undoubtedly claim that "they" did it wrong in Germany. The New Socialists will remain unburdened by reality.
And people who refuse to learn from history will blindly follow the New Socialists – like lemmings – off the cliff into a fatal repeat of history.
The rest of us will not surrender our minds to socialist nonsense.
