Barbecue is team effort

Editor, OBSERVER:

On June 3, The Sheridan Memorial VFW Post 6390 held its chicken barbecue. A very big thank you to our patrons, members, VFW, and auxiliary who made our event another success!

We could not have done it without our dedicated volunteers and staff: Chopper, Kathie, Jan, Joe and Rene, John , Grant, Nick, Ward, Sam, Romaine, Patrick, Bobbi, Jennifer and Brian.

Thank you all so very much!

Della Pia has strong resume

Editor, OBSERVER:

As we know, 2018 is an election year. Each of the major parties nominates candidates for public office, including that of Congressman.

As a person who has been elected to public office, I believe that this year the Democratic Party has a clear choice in selecting its candidate for Congress — Max Della Pia — a U.S. Air Force Academy graduate and retired Air Force colonel.

Though the demands are many for a member of the House of Representatives, one of the most important is having an understanding and background in the single largest expenditure item in the federal budget-our national defense.

Mr. Della Pia has more than 30 years experience as an Air Force Officer. He served in the First Gulf War and in Afghanistan, and was Commanding Officer of a New York Air National Guard air lift wing in Schenectady, where he led over a thousand airmen and women and supervised the operation of fourteen C-130 aircraft. He is also an attorney with experience in business and the private sector.

He has the background and leadership skills to make him a very able representative for the Southern Tier in the Congress of the United States.

Mitrano can defeat Reed

Editor, OBSERVER:

Tracy Mitrano is the candidate to vote for on June 26 in the Democratic primary! She is seasoned and savvy, articulate and engaging, and all fired up to bring back opportunity to our district!

Her qualifications are impressive — a Ph.D. in American history, a law degree and years of experience as a cybersecurity expert at Cornell University.

We need a candidate who can navigate the political arena with conviction, grace and determination. As a lifelong resident of our 23rd District, Tracy is compassionate and knowledgeable about the issues concerning our area, and she has well-crafted, strategic plans for assuring our district will thrive and and prosper.

Most importantly, as a front runner in all polls and with multiple endorsements, she has the support districtwide to get elected in November. In these challenging times, as we witness our democracy eroding before our eyes, our first priority is getting more Democrats in Congress so we can make effective change, both locally and nationally. Vote for Tracy Mitrano and she will have Tom Reed packing his bags!
