Another step toward socialism

EDITOR, OBSERVER

An economics professor did an experiment in his class of students who insisted that socialism worked.

He averages all the grades on their next test. No one fails, no one received an A. After the first test, everyone got a B. The students who studied hard were upset. The students who studied little were happy. After the second test, the students who studied little studied even less. The students who studied hard decided they wanted a free ride too, so they studied little. The second test average was a D. No one was happy. When the third test rolled around, the average was an F.

When you take the reward away, no one will try or want to succeed and socialism will ultimately fail.

This is what is happening in New York state. The people who did not followed the recommendations of the CDC and failed to get the COVID shots, for whatever reason, thus prolonging the pandemic are now being given an “incentive” or reward, if you will, of Scratch-Offs with a top prize of a millions of dollars and a guarantee of at least $20.00 or four years of free college. The people who followed the CDC’s recommendations, did it because they wanted to be able to hug their children, grandchildren and other family members, and to be done with this isolation which is damaging our economy.

Just maybe if those people who did not follow the CDC’s recommendations were penalized instead of rewarded. Penalized by being barred from their child’s and\or grandchild’s school functions and all major sporting events, or being turned away from nursing homes and hospitals where family members are. This should indicate to them that the right choice is to be vaccinated. On the flip side of the coin, the people who did get vaccinated might just say, if this ever happened again, God forbid, I’m going to wait until some “incentive” is given to get the vaccine. Then how long will it take to get to herd immunity?

Socialism takes from the do-gooders and gives to the do-nothings and that is exactly what New York state is doing, rewarding the do-nothings.
