Langworthy must do more to hear residents

Editor, OBSERVER:

Regarding the recent Editor’s corner defense of our U.S. Rep. Nick Langworthy (May 30), “Ettiquette can go south fast in town halls,” I disagree with the opinion.

Certainly, Rep. Langworthy should be applauded for the time spent “making the rounds” in the local community and across the entire 23rd. However, whether one agrees with one’s opinion or not, or feels that a town hall would not change anyone’s minds, and that people’s “etiquette can go south fast in town ” is irrelevant and anti-democratic.

And, so what if people are emotional while expressing an opinion?

All citizens in the 23rd district are his constituents and deserve to be heard. Rep. Langworthy is obligated to explain his position, which, by extension, supports the Trump administration, and how our congressional district benefits, while listening to all his constituents.

Rep. Langworthy has been consistent in not addressing or listening to the concerns of all district citizens. He is not being transparent or truly accessible as a representative by simply discarding those who may disagree with his position, or those “he can’t please.”

This is not representative democracy. Kudos to former U.S. Rep. Tom Reed for attempting to listen to all constituents.

I disagree with the opinion and defense of the Congressman.
