Settlers, not immigrants,

built country

Editor, OBSERVER:

Some would argue that immigrants built this country, but they didn’t. Settlers did.

Were settlers immigrants? No they weren’t.

Immigrants come to a developed nation looking for opportunity. Settlers go to an undeveloped land and create opportunity. That’s very different. That might seem like splitting hairs, but it’s splitting facts from delusion.

Settlers had no infrastructure, no government, no roads, no welfare, no economy. People who immigrated here later did not come to build it from scratch. Immigrants still do contribute, if they come here legally, if they bring value, if they assimilate.

Yes, they can contribute a lot, but only if they come legally and come to contribute and not come here for the handouts. That seems to be the problem with the “now” immigrants. These people want the benefits of America without becoming Americans.

They come here hating this country. They break the law to get in here and still expect us to believe they are entitled enough to think we should welcome them with open arms and as if they were heroes.

They demand rights that they’ve never earned, reject values they’ve never lived, and feel entitled to a nation that they don’t even respect. That’s our problem today.
