Being ready
for coming election
Editor, OBSERVER:
The general election is just weeks away — make sure your voice is heard! Too often, people think elections only matter in high-profile races, but here in Chautauqua County, your ballot also includes vital contests for local offices. These decisions affect how our tax dollars are spent, and the services we rely on every day.
Local elections are frequently decided by just a few votes — sometimes even one. That’s why confirming your voter registration today is so important. If you’ve moved, changed your name, or haven’t voted in a while, updating your information ensures your ballot will count.
The League of Women Voters of Chautauqua County offers trusted, nonpartisan tools at www.vote411.org to check registration, explore candidates, and find election deadlines.
Early voting is Oct. 25 to Nov. 2. Other important dates include:
— Oct. 25 — Last day for in-person Voter Registration; mail-in registrations must be received by a Board of Elections.
— Nov. 3 — Last day to apply in-person for absentee ballot.
— Nov. 4 — Last day to postmark ballot. Must be received by the local Board of Elections no later than Nov. 12. Military Voter Ballots must be received no later than Nov. 18.
It also is the last day to deliver ballot in-person to the local Board of Elections or to any poll site.
Voting is both a right and a responsibility. Let’s honor Western New York’s tradition of civic engagement–register, vote, and shape the future of our communities.
