Brooks-TLC efforts deserve praise Editor, OBSERVER: Sept. 18, I fell in my back yard and broke my hip. Starting with the 911 call, the response was above and beyond. After arriving at Brooks-TLC Hospital emergency room, the care I received was excellent. I was admitted and had surgery the following day. I remained in the hospital for one week and the care I received from all the nurses, aids, and doctor was outstanding. Rabies clinic is community service Editor, OBSERVER: The community should extend a big thank you and show of appreciation for the efforts of the Pet Pantry and Lake Shore Humane Society for arranging for and sponsoring the latest rabies clinic here in Dunkirk. The free rabies clinic was Oct. 12 at the Humane Society’s building on Chestnut Street here in the city, and the vaccinations were free of charge. Unfair climate with speech Editor, OBSERVER: Thomas Jefferson repeatedly said that a properly functioning democracy depends on an informed electorate. Editor, OBSERVER: A recent opinion piece “We must open our eyes to Mideast wrongs” (Sept. 25) is poorly conceived. The suggestion that the Native Americans lacked disease because of a “human right to clean water” is silly. Europeans had more exposure to deadly diseases because of their proximity to the mammals they domesticated such as the cow and sheep, not because of Native sanitation methods.
