Editor, OBSERVER: It has recently come to my attention that the village of Fredonia’s police chief is retiring. During tough times like these it can be a scary thought, that a process like this can take weeks to months to find a qualified person. Thank God we already have a qualified candidate working on the force. With more than 25 years of police experience and an impeccable record our village lucked out. Editor, OBSERVER: I belong to a self-advocacy group for people with disabilities called Make a Mark. I’m writing because I want to let all of the soldiers who fought bravely in Afghanistan know that they are indeed appreciated for their sacrifices for the past 20 years. All jobs have requirements

Editor, OBSERVER: In reply to the front page story, “Nurses plead with county officials to stand up for them” (Sept. 24), the featured nurse will have to choose between getting vaccinated against COVID or losing her job. She asks for help from her county legislators. This is a personal decision over which she has complete control: comply with her employer’s requirements (get vaccinated) or refuse, and lose her job. Farming remains important here

Editor, OBSERVER: This is in regard to the OBSERVER’s editorial “Census: Numbers send another warning.” It stated, “As we shrink, corporations are taking their jobs to the places that are growing because that’s where they can find a steady supply of workers.” The converse of this observation is that less developmental pressure is placed on agricultural land use in a county which has long been noted for its tremendous agricultural productivity on each acre farmed.
