Thirty years ago — 1990

It was learned today that the Brocton-Portland area is not one of the two sites chosen by legislative leaders in Albany for a new 750-bed prison facility. The proposed 90-acre site located on Swede Road in Brocton was one of 11 being considered for one of the two new prisons. Little Valley in Cattaraugus County was also being considered as a possible site.

Forty years ago — 1980

Student of the Week is Deborah Steese, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Peter Steese, 6 Castile Drive, Fredonia. A senior, she is president of the Drama Club and appeared in numerous school musicals. She received the best actress award at the New York State Acting Competition at SUNY Geneseo. Deborah also was an All-State Chorus member and is a 3-1-3 student at SUNY Fredonia, where she will continue her education, majoring in psychology.

Fifty years ago — 1970

Joseph Millonzi of Fredonia has been elected president of the Chautauqua County Funeral Directors Association. Donald L. Jordan of Sinclairville is first vice president.
