Thirty years ago — 1990

Grant Cooper has received the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching at Fredonia State University College. Professor Grant has been a member of the Fredonia School of Music faculty since 1982. A native of New Zealand, he also is music director for the Fredonia Chamber Players.

Forty years ago — 1980

From Just Between Us … Congratulations to Jon Ezra VanderWeel who became a citizen of the United States this month at the U.S. District Court in Buffalo. The handsome son of Mr. and Mrs. John VanderWeel of East Green Street, Dunkirk, he arrived here in April 1977 from San Salvador, El Salvador, Central America.

Fifty years ago — 1970

Wives of Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp. employees will meet to discuss the serious problem facing the company, the area’s largest employer. Some 500 men, 40 percent of the workforce, have been laid off from the steel plant, reportedly due to the influx of imported steel.
