Thirty years ago — 1990

The St. Lucia’s Society of St. Anthony’s Church, Fredonia recently celebrated its 78th anniversary by attending Mass in a body and enjoying dinner at the White Inn later in the day. Florence Borzilleri, president, welcomed 57 members and guests, the Rev. Daniel Walsh, pastor, and Rev. Joseph Porpiglia. Entertainer John Joy lead the group in singing, “Santa Lucia.” Dorothy Conti served as master of ceremonies.

Forty years ago — 1980

Student of the Week is Rodney Matteson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Keith Matteson of Harmon Avenue, Brocton. A senior at Brocton Central School, Rodney has been a member of the varsity football and swim teams, National Honor Society, Drama Club and Ski Club. He is currently a finalist for a U.S. Navy ROTC Scholarship and hopes to major in mechanical engineering at Cornell University.

Fifty years ago — 1970

Capt. Frank Stewart, company commander of the First Cavalry Division’s Company, 75th Airborne Ranger Company in Vietnam, has been awarded the Silver Star, the nation’s third-highest award for valor. He is the son of Mrs. Marian H. Carson, 157 Central Ave., Silver Creek.
