Thirty years ago — 1990

Alvina Porter, a 15-year-old sophomore at Dunkirk High School, was a contestant in the Miss Junior Buffalo Pageant held recently at Saint Mary’s Academy in Buffalo. The daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Paul L. Porter, 217 Lake Shore Drive East, Dunkirk, she was named Miss Congeniality and received a trophy for the honor.

Forty years ago — 1980

Aspiring broadcast journalist Miss Pamela Mangus of Dunkirk will appear as co-host on the “Commander Tom Show,” televised on Ch. 7 in Buffalo. Miss Mangus, a senior at Dunkirk High School, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Mangus, 98 West Sixth St., Dunkirk. Following her graduation in June, the young reporter plans on a career in the broadcast media.

Fifty years ago — 1970

Debbie Hamlin, 16, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hamlin, 1 Westerly Drive, Fredonia has been named to the New York State 4-H vegetable judging team.
