Thirty years ago — 1991

Paul Redlich of Fredonia is seeking to lease 3,000 square feet of space at the County Airport North in Dunkirk for his Stars and Bars Aircraft Co., a firm which will restore antique and vintage aircraft of the “Warbird” era. Redlich noted that the “Stars and Bars” in his firm’s name refers not to the old Confederate Civil War flag but to the Air Force slang for the wing and body emblems on World War II aircraft.

Forty years ago — 1981

At its annual awards dinner in New York City, the National Arts Club awarded architect I.M. Pei its Gold Medal of Honor. Mr. Pei and his firm were master architects for the SUNY Fredonia campus layout, including the road system, with construction costs of $50,000,000. Designs by the architect include Rockefeller Arts Center, Maytum Hall, Reed Library, McEwen Hall and the Campus Center, among others.

Fifty years ago — 1971

Vincent Price, actor, art collector, and gourmet cook, will appear at Fredonia State University College this week. He will give a presentation entitled, “The Villains Still Pursue Me.”
