Thirty years ago — 1991
Actress Mary McDonnell, a Fredonia State University College graduate who was nominated for an Academy Award, has reportedly turned down a $1 million offer to star opposite Harrison Ford in a new film. The New York Post said McDonnell wanted $1.2 million to star in “Patriot Games.” McDonnell was nominated for an Oscar in this year’s Best Picture, “Dances With Wolves.”
Forty years ago — 1981
From the Reporter’s Notebook: Even the giant, stainless steel sculptures on the SUNY Fredonia campus need some liquid refreshment or at least someone thought so. A beer can was carefully placed in the “hand” of one of the large sculptures which overlook the campus just to the north of Rockefeller Arts Center. The sculpture stands about 20 feet tall so it was no easy task to get the beer can up there. How long the can remains is anybody’s guess.
Fifty years ago — 1971
The new elementary school in the Pine Valley School District has been given the OK for pupil occupancy by the Pine Valley School Board.
