Thirty years ago — 1991

Richard S. “Rick” Johnson has been selected as the 1991 Northern Chautauqua Chamber of Commerce “Person of the Year.” A Dunkirk native, Johnson is a graduate of Dunkirk High School and Lehigh University. A certified public accountant, he currently serves as partner in charge of management and quality control for the firm of Johnson, Mackowiak, Moore and Myott with offices in Fredonia and Jamestown. Johnson has been an active member of the Chamber for 10 years.

Forty years ago — 1981

The fire bell that rang from atop Holy Cross Seminary (now Holy Cross Apostolic Center) in the town of Dunkirk for many years was recently given to the West Dunkirk Volunteer Fire Co. by the Passionist Fathers during a ceremony at the Willow Road fire hall. The dedication ceremony was held in conjunction with the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the founding of the company.

Fifty years ago — 1971

Wilbert Persch has been named “Kiwanian of the Year” by the Dunkirk Kiwanis Club. Mr. Persch was presented a special plaque in recognition of the honor.
