Thirty years ago — 1992

Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has announced additional plans for its new store in Fredonia. As a result, 245 jobs will be created for area residents. The 116,097 square-foot store will be located on Route 60 near Route 20. Construction is scheduled to begin late this summer and the new store is expected to open in the summer of 1993. The Fredonia store will include a garden center, pharmacy and snack bar for customers’ shopping inconvenience.

Forty years ago — 1982

The Cassadaga Branch of the Mary E. Seymour Library may be able to continue operating after leaving its present facilities in the elementary school in the village. Representatives from the branch library told Cassadaga Village Board members that Mrs. Lucille Meyers has promised to deed over to the library a building and lot she owns on South Main Street. The library must vacate the Cassadaga Elementary School by Aug. 1 of this year so the school can provide room for state-mandated remedial programs.

Fifty years ago — 1972

The name of the annual United Fund campaign has been changed from the United Community Fund of Dunkirk-Fredonia Inc. to the United Way.
