Thirty years ago — 1992

For a brief time in the past week, a portion of Cassadaga’s history was brought back to the surface. There is a red brick road on Main Street in the village that few residents know about. Its existence was revealed when restoration work now under way on Route 60 (Main Street) included grinding away layers of the existing road’s surface. Cassadaga resident Ann Miller, 93, remembers the red bricks being laid in 1915, one brick at a time.

Forty years ago — 1982

At a recent meeting of the Silver Creek Board of Education, it was announced the board has received notice that C. Edward Kaufman, longtime senior high English instructor, will retire at the end of the school year. Mr. Kaufman has been with the Silver Creek School District since 1943.

Fifty years ago — 1972

James Borowczyk, son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Borowczyk, 233 King St., Dunkirk has been named as the first valedictorian of the BOCES Philip J. LoGuidice Occupational Center.
