Thirty years ago — 1992
Dunkirk Hose Co. No. 1 has named Art Maloney as its honorary chairman for the 1992 installation banquet to be held at the Exempts Firemen’s Club. Mr. Maloney is a 60-year member of Hose Co. No. 1, having joined in 1932. He was employed by the Dunkirk Fire Department as a paid fire driver from 1942 to 1973.
Forty years ago — 1982
As it has been for all of her 90 years, life continues to be exciting for Mrs. Nancy McKnight Milligan of Dunkirk. As of May 6, Mrs. Milligan is a registered citizen of the United States. Born in Ireland and raised in Canada, she was one of 50 persons made U.S. citizens at a ceremony conducted by Federal Court Judge John T. Curtin. A retired registered nurse, she also served as an American Red Cross local volunteer for 35 years, retiring from her volunteer work at age 84.
Fifty years ago — 1972
Plans have been unveiled for a new St. Hedwig’s Church to be located adjacent to the present church building on Doughty Street at Roberts Road. Parishioners plan to gather on Christmas Eve to dedicate the new $330,000 church.
