Thirty years ago — 1992

Robert Barlette was elected president of the Dunkirk Board of Education and Henry Serafin was elected vice president during the board’s annual meeting. James Monahan was elected board clerk. Barlette, Serafin and Monahan were the only nominees for each of their respective posts. Rose Floramo was also sworn in, marking the start of her five-year term.

Forty years ago — 1982

A member of the six-year accelerated Gannon-Hahnemann Program, Dr. Tina Marut Reilly was awarded her doctor of medicine degree magna cum laude from Hahnemann Medical College and Hospital of Philadelphia, Pa. The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Walter E. Marut of 29 Tenney St., Dunkirk, Dr. Reilly has accepted a position as resident physician in surgery at Hamot Medical Center in Erie.

Fifty years ago — 1972

Ground-breaking ceremonies were held recently for a new Niagara Mohawk Power Corp. commercial office building in Dunkirk’s Urban Renewal area. Mayor Clem J. Lutz turned the first spadeful of earth on the site at Washington Avenue and East Fourth Street.
