Thirty years ago — 1992

Rep. Amory Houghton Jr. (R-Corning) announced at the Chautauqua County Airport South (Jamestown) that he will be seeking a fourth two-year term as congressman for the Southern Tier 31st District. Rep. Houghton said his announcement was late because of delays in settling congressional district lines under the new reapportionment plan.

Forty years ago — 1982

Lester Bardwell of Dunkirk Memorial Post 62 was elected vice commander of the Department of New York, American Legion. His election took place during the 64th annual convention held July 17 at War Memorial Auditorium in Syracuse. Mr. Bardwell will represent the American Legion Districts 7 and 8.

Fifty years ago — 1972

A testimonial dinner will be held this evening in honor of the departing Passionists of St. Mary’s Church and Holy Cross Apostolic Center. The dinner will be held at the Dunkirk High School.
