Thirty years ago — 1992

State Supreme Court Justice Joseph Gerace issued a “shame-on-you-all” decision which nevertheless lets stand the sale of the Sea Lion to Buffalo Maritime Society. The 16th Century replica sailing ship, now tied up in Dunkirk harbor, is expected to be towed to Buffalo as soon as weather permits, according to the attorney for her new owner.

Forty years ago — 1982

The Most Rev. Edward D. Head, Bishop of Buffalo, was the main celebrant at a recent Mass at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Silver Creek to mark the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the church. The offertory procession included 30 participants with gifts representing the past 100 years of the church history. The Rev. James Streng, pastor of Mt. Carmel, concelebrated the Mass along with several former pastors.

Fifty years ago — 1972

The activities room at the Chautauqua County Home and Infirmary has been moved from the first to the second floor so that the residents can enjoy looking at the gardens planted and nurtured by the Four Seasons Garden Club as its civic project.
