Thirty years ago — 1992

The Fredonia Farm Festival Committee has selected former president and general manager of the annual event, James A. McKinley, as grand marshal of this year’s parade, which is a highlight of the 24th four-day celebration. During his years of service to the festival, Mr. McKinley said the expansion from a basic farmer’s market has been the biggest change, noting the rapid growth in attendance and the number of arts and crafts participants.

Forty years ago — 1982

St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church in Brocton has a new sign which identifies its location and indicates when services will be held, thanks to the efforts of three young people who are studying masonry at the Cassadaga Job Corps Center. Under the direction of their instructor, Rich Barlett, students Robert Steffans, Carmen Ramos and Charles Ventura have constructed a new brick and stone sign to replace the church’s deteriorating metal sign.

Fifty years ago — 1972

“Think twice. You live but once” was the winning entry in a safety slogan contest held at the Dunkirk plant of Roblin Steel Co. The author, Norman L. Brady of Brocton, earned a $500 savings bond for his efforts.
